Three generations in a Latino family register to vote as UFW marks one week before deadline for Nov. 7 election
As part of a United Farm Workers voter registration drive among area Latinos, union volunteer Shamila Marquez will use a ceremony on Tuesday to sign up her mother, 75-year old grandmother and 95-year old great grandmother in time to vote in the Nov. 7 presidential election. The grandmother and great grandmother both received their U.S. citizenship this year and are looking forward to participating in the fall balloting. UFW activists, who have been mounting a statewide drive to register Latino voters, are using the event with this family as a reminder that Oct. 10 is the last day to register to vote in this year's general election.Also on hand to witness the happy observance will be UFW-endorsed Assembly Candidates Jose Medina, Gloria Negrete-McCloud, Joey Acuna and Ray Quinto.
