Californians: UFW Reccomends a "YES" Vote on Proposition 92.
01/28/2008

For decades, the California Community College system has made it possible for 2.5 million students per year to attend college. Low fees have made it possible for many students to use this institution as a springboard to a 4-year university. However, in 2004, when fees were hiked, 305,000 fewer students enrolled. If fees continue to rise, the doors to a higher education may be shut permanently for those who would no longer be able to afford it.

Proposition 92, the California Community College Initiative, will enhance the mission of the community colleges, by lowering fees to $15 per unit - ensuring that community colleges are affordable. It also limits the rise in future fees to the cost of living and provides stable funding for community colleges. In addition, it guarantees that the community college system is independent from state politics.
