"Almost everyone agrees that our entire immigration system is broken, and that our government records and databases are full of holes. Immigrant Raids by Bush Administration
No Answer to Failed U.S. Immigration Policy
The UFW strongly condemns the recent raids and detention of workers by the Bush Administration’s Department of Homeland Security/Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) that targeted immigrant workers at the Swift Company meat packing plants .
“Almost everyone agrees that our entire immigration system is broken, and that our government records and databases are full of holes. Given that reality, launching riot gear-clad armed agents to terrorize hard working immigrant workers is shocking and not fitting of American values.” said UFW President Arturo Rodriguez.
It’s time for the federal government to stop victimizing workers and reform our immigration system. The solution needs to include a clear path to earned legalization for undocumented immigrants who are living and contributing to the U.S. economy.
Please call your congress members today and tell them : enough talk, it’s time for change. Tell them to make the United Farm Workers-sponsored AgJobs bill (S. 359, H.R. 884) the law for farm workers, and adopt similar principles for comprehensive immigration reform. This bipartisan bill--negotiated by the UFW and the nation’s agricultural industry--would let undocumented farm workers earn the right to permanently stay in this country by continuing to work in agriculture.
