Krug workers turn in boycott petitions

Workers fired by Charles Krug Winery in July presented the winery on Tuesday with petitions signed by more than 15,000 people pledging to boycott Krug-Mondavi wines.

The United Farm Workers, which represents the fired workers and organized the petition drive, has been fighting to get the workers reinstated.

The dispute originally centered on whether physical exams should be mandatory for all employees under their latest contract. The union refused to accept the provision, and the winery decided to fire its workers in favor of Jack Neal and Sons Vineyard Management.

The UFW accused the winery of negotiating in bad faith, and made a complaint to the Agricultural Labor Relations Board, which sided with the union. The matter will most likely be resolved by an administrative law judge.
