This program is dedicated to advocating on behalf of agricultural guestworkers, also known as H-2A workers. While our divisions of our union continue to push for legalization that will provide much needed legal status to those agricultural workers who are already here, our program focuses on ensuring the rights of guestworkers are respected internationally.
Our goal is:
To provide international small farmers with the opportunity to safely and legally come to the United States;
To ensure these workers treated respectfully, earn a fair wage guaranteed through a union contract, and learn new skills;
To facilitate their return home with increased savings and knowledge
We work collaboratively with willing employers to ensure that they have access to a just source of legal workers where there is a worker shortage. We have sued, organized press conferences and taken direct action in those cases where workers’ rights are being abused. We proudly continue the legacy of the United Farm Workers, representing workers from all around the world, from as far away as Thailand, across the border in Mexico and here in the US.
