Do you need a speaker for your Cesar Chavez Day observance honoring the life and values of the legendary farm labor and civil rights leader?
Among those available to speak are members of the Chavez family, current and former leaders and staff of Chavez’s Farm Worker Movement and some of the United Farm Workers founder’s colleagues and friends. They are provided by the Speakers Bureau of the Cesar E. Chavez Foundation, set up by the Chavez family to continue his work.
This year’s Chavez holiday season, focused around his March 31 birthday, highlights the 45th anniversary of the start of the 1965 Delano Grape Strike and the 40th anniversary of the grape strikers’ victory through success of the international table grape boycott, which convinced growers to sign their first-ever union contracts in 1970. Among subjects covered by speakers are Chavez’s persistence and self-sacrifice, his commitment to nonviolence and his use of boycotts and other innovative strategies that attracted support from millions of people.
