Chavez march honors principles

Thumbs up to the organizers of a march to honor Cesar Chavez in Visalia on March 27

The march was in advance of Cesar Chavez Day on March 31.

The Tulare County Chamber of Commerce, Tulare-Kings Hispanic Roundtable, Wittman Village Community Center and College of the Sequoias, among others, are to be commended for celebrating the ideals of the life of the late labor activist.

The principles of dignity for laborers and nonviolent protest to accomplish political goals go beyond any ethnic background. Even so, Chavez is an iconic figure for many of Mexican-American descent.

His memory deserves commemoration by our community because of his position as a role model and mentor.

We're thankful there are groups that continue to provide tangible reflection of Chavez' status as leader in the causes of equality and justice.
